Darlene Vanchura, LPC-S

Over the last 20 years, I have worked to help adults, children, and families in overcoming the effects of trauma. In addition, I provide a safe environment to assist those who are dealing with relationship issues, divorce, anger, anxiety and/or depression. Some issues resolve relatively quickly and some take more time. I am comfortable taking the time needed for my clients to achieve their therapy goals.

I see clients of all ages, utilizing a client-centered approach and play therapy with my youngest clients starting at the age of 3 years old. I am also EMDR trained.

Most of the time I use something we call Plain Ol’ Talk therapy with adults but occasionally I include action methods of therapy for a change of pace if my client is willing to do so. Psychodrama is a passion of mine and I am currently in training towards becoming a Certified Practitioner of Psychodrama.

Currently serving on the Board of the Texas Association for Play Therapy as the Regional Chapter Representative for the North Texas, Sam Houston, & Central Texas Chapters, allows me to promote the benefits of Play Therapy around the state.

I am affiliated with the Association for Play Therapy, American Group Psychodrama Association, Trauma Support Services of North Texas, Dallas Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology, and the North Tarrant Mental Health Professionals. I also am honored to serve on the board of Keller Counseling Association.

I am happy to help.

Coolest place I’ve traveled: I was fortunate to be able to spend 10 days in Bulgaria, mainly staying in quaint places along the Black Sea. We stayed in the beach sections of Nessebar & Varna, each full of beauty and history. I loved every minute of it.
Favorite quote(s): “Real is better than perfect.” – Dorothy Satten & “Learn your theories as well as you can and put them aside when you touch the miracle of a living soul.” – Carl Jung
If I could meet anyone in history, it would be: Abraham Lincoln, as I admire his life principals and the fact that he was born in a log cabin, had no college training, yet managed to become the President of the United States and led the country through one of the most devastating times in our history.
Biggest fear: Losing the ability to use my mind as I grow older.
Greatest accomplishment: Receiving my Master’s Degree and being able to help others with their emotional life by becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Favorite movies: As a child, I remember watching The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan every year with my family. I also remember clapping along to help Tinkerbell when she asked “Do you believe? Then clap your hands.” Did you know that Mary Martin (Peter Pan) was born in Weatherford, TX and is the mother of Larry Hagman (JR Ewing of Who shot JR?)?
